The neighborhoods of Harambee and Lindsay Heights are experiencing a welcome rebirth in the city of Milwaukee. Harambee, which means “pulling together” in Swahili rings true for Lindsay Heights as well. Both neighborhoods are excellent examples of effective, community-driven, urban revitalization. The neighborhoods have proud histories rich in traditions and their citizens are committed to collaborating for a better community. Residents, developers and community leaders have joined forces to develop affordable housing, restore lovely historic residences, initiate educational programs and human services and improve the quality of life in the area. Day care, elementary and middle schools are located within the neighborhood. Parks, community centers, banks, medical facilities, shopping, recreation and access to downtown Milwaukee are all in close proximity.
